Lyra is out of my good friend George Walker's dog, Drill, a dog I admired for a long time. Drill is a very consistent Open dog in both the field and arena, consistently making Finals and placing top 5 dogs or higher. He's also won a fair few.

This litter was a repeat breeding with the first cross doing well.

Lyra was plucked off the farm and took the world by storm! She and I flew from Alberta to Ontario and took the flight like a pro.

Lyra oozes confidence, is curious about her surroundings, attentive, and very friendly with everyone she meets. Nothing rattles this girl's nerves. Overall, she is a comical and take-anywhere dog.

I started Lyra's formal training in the summer of 2024 with great progression. In early spring of 2025, I sent her to Paul Batz for some fixing up and fine-tuning; she also got to enjoy some real work during her time with him. This past summer (2026), Lyra spent the summer working with a goat-grazing project in Saskatchewan. Not only did Lyra put a ton of miles in her work with ~1,500 goats (mixed kids with their mothers, does, and wethers), but also worked in open fields, heavy brush, sorting ~5,000 goats in one day working in the pens, silent 400+ yard gathers, holding goats for treatment, shedding a single, and her greatest accomplishement this season was finding a lost herd of goats. We will be returning for grazing and more work in the fields for 2027, and we look forward to continuing to expand our skills. Lyra has also gotten to lightly work cow/calf pairs during our time in the pasture.

 

I'd best describe Lyra as having a lovely feel for her sheep and a fair amount of forward. She is great with lambs/kids and patient enough to move them with their mums, and excels in close-up work as well as holding singles. I would fault Lyra for having quite a bit of eye and the strong urge to head her stock.
