About us...
Purpose
My focus here at Gemstone Border Collies is to breed for and maintain the working ability and traits of the Border Collie breed that we have come to know and love. I aim to produce dogs that are overall sound, with a passion for work, but also easy to live with.
In between my job and training my dogs, I like to compete in trials sanctioned under USBCHA and NEBCA, which allows me to showcase my dogs' potential and skills. Because I travel for various endeavours, including some farm sitting, my dogs have shown to be adaptable under various circumstances, as well as integrate well with other breeds of dogs.
Introduction
My name is Jaline (she/her). I was born and raised in the city of Ottawa, and as I grew up, I developed a big interest in dogs. Growing up, we had a couple of rescue dogs, foster cats, and I also owned fish and pet rats throughout the years. I got my first dog at 13 years old, a field-bred chocolate Labrador Retriever I named Mocha. Mocha introduced me to the world of dog sports, starting in flyball, then dock diving, followed by my second dog Veloce (French of velocity), a female Border Collie mix, who got me into agility and barnhunt.
When looking to add my third dog, I was looking for a Border Collie. I found the breeder on the CBCA website, and after a 2-hour phone conversation, I was on the list. Crunch flew to me via cargo from Alberta to Ontario. When we moved to Alberta that same year, we later got into a few sports together, primarily focusing on agility and disc before getting into herding. Crunch was a consistent dog in both sports. She regularly placed in the competitive 20" class and the same against some top teams in UpDog in Edmonton. We also dabbled in weight pull, barn hunt, and dock diving (all non-competitively).
In 2020, we were relocated back to Ontario for my spouse's work. I have since put sports aside for now to focus on training and trialling with my dogs, along with returning to College. I have met and gotten to know many amazing people and travelled to all sorts of places thanks to my dogs. My passion for working Border Collies quickly became a central component in my life.
