About us...

Purpose

My focus here at Gemstone Border Collies is to breed for and maintain the working ability and traits of the Border Collie breed that we have come to know and love today. I aim to produce dogs with vitality, resilience, biddability, and passion for work, but dogs that are easy to live with.

Competing in trials under the USBCHA and/or NEBCA, allows me to showcase my dogs' potential and skills on livestock, primarily sheep. Because we travel for various endeavours, my dogs have shown to be adaptable in various circumstances as well as integrate well with other breeds of dogs.

Introduction

My name is Jaline (she/her). I was born and raised in the city of Ottawa, and as I grew up, I developed a big interest in dogs and dog sports. In our home, we had a couple of rescue dogs and foster cats, I also owned fish and pet rats throughout the years. I got my first dog at 13 years old, a field-bred chocolate Labrador Retriever I named Mocha. Mocha introduced me to the world of dog sports, starting in flyball, then dock diving, followed by my second dog Veloce (French of velocity), a female Border Collie mix, who got me into agility and barnhunt.

When looking to add my third dog, I was looking for a well-bred working Border Collie. I found a breeder on the CBCA website, and after a 2-hour phone conversation, I was on the list. Crunch flew to me via cargo from Alberta to Ontario. When we moved to Alberta that same year, we later got into a few sports together, primarily focusing on agility and disc before getting into herding. Crunch was a consistent dog in both agility and disc, she regularly placed in the competitive 20" AAC class and the same against some top teams in UpDog in Edmonton. We also dabbled in weight pull, barn hunt, and dock diving (all non-competitively).

In 2020, we were relocated back to Ontario for my spouse's work. I have since put agility aside for the time being to focus on training and trialling in herding with my dogs, along with returning to College. I have met and gotten to know many amazing people and travelled to all sorts of places thanks to my dogs, and my passion for keeping the traits of the working Border Collie became a central component in my life. On the side, I enjoy teaching my dogs some fun tricks and playing disc with them occasionally.

We are inclusive, accepting and strongly support equality.

No discrimination will be made here based on race, culture, religion, or gender identity.

Registered kennel and member of the CBCA.
